- What activities will my child under the age of 8 participate in?
- We have special activities for children under the age of 8 which include crafts and field activities appropriate for their age. Also, they can participate in Canoe and low ropes with their parents’ supervision.
- Is there a discount for family and siblings?
- We have worked out hardest to bring down the camp accommodation to an affordable rate for families. With three-night accommodation, all meals, and activities included in the $150/100 price we can not offer additional discounts. Please reach out to us at pghmuslimcamp@gmail.com if you feel you have a special circumstance.
- What happens if I Show up the day of camp unregistered?
- We strongly urge that you do not put our camp directors and our camp attendees in this difficult position. You will not be guaranteed a place in the cabins and may have to set up your own tent or book a stay at the nearest hotel. Please sign up early to make sure we best accommodate everyone in the proper place.
- Is there a refund if I am no longer able to attend camp?
- This will be dependent upon the time to request a refund. Due to the limited availability, refunds may not be given. Please contact us at pghmuslimcamp@gmail.com for further question regarding the refunds and we will work our best with you.
- Are there limited camping spots?
- We can accommodate around 120 people in the cabins/yurts. Everyone else will have to set up a tent or book a stay at the nearest hotel and pay the day rate to attend camp.
- I am older and do not want to participate in all activities such as zipline and canoeing. Will I still pay the same rate?
- We provide a variety of different activities for all ages aside from those activities so we can not offer a discount except for the prices mentioned above. Please email us at pghmuslimcamp@gmail.com for further questions.
- What happens if less than 140 people sign up for camp? Will the price increase?
this strain upon them. If not many from the Pittsburgh community sign up- AIC will extend camp invites to other communities to make sure to
fill up space and cover camp expenses.
Accommodation:
- Can my family stay together in the same cabin?
- With the setup of the cabins, it is not possible for families of opposite genders to stay together in the same cabin as they will be separated by gender. The camp is all about bringing the community together to embrace the opportunity to connect with one another. There is a nearby hotel for you to book if you wish to stay with family or set up a tent.
- Will I be guaranteed to get a bed in a cabin if I pay the $150 registration fee?
- Yes, if you sign up at the proper time we guarantee that you will get the cabin or yurt bed that you paid for. The cabins and yurts have a mixed number of bunk beds and cots. If you pay the Cabin rate we will make sure your space is secured in one of those options. Please make sure to sign up early in order for us to be best prepared for our campers. Late registration or same-day unregistered show up DOES not guarantee a camper proper accommodation. It will be based on what is available at that moment.
- Are there any nearby hotels that I can stay at and still attend camp? What would the registration fee be?
our campground. You will be required to pay $50 per day for each adult and kid which will include all camp activities and meals for a day.
- Can I come for only 1 or 2 nights?
- We would love to be able to accommodate 1- or 2-night stays but the fee would remain the same if you wish to stay in a cabin. This is due to the fact that your reservation would take up the space of someone who wanted to attend full time. If you wish to come for 1 or 2 nights then we recommend you set up a tent or stay at a nearby hotel. Please email us at pghmuslimcamp@gmail.com to further discuss what the rate would be.
- Are the sleeping areas different for men/women/kids?
- We separate the men and women into different cabins. All youth under the age of 14 must be in the same cabin as their parent/guardian at all times. Those between the ages of 14 and 18 can stay in the youth cabins with permission from their parents/guardians. Young Children and their mothers will also be placed in distributed amounts in cabins with other young children and mothers.
- If I choose to tent will the tent be provided for me or do I have to bring my own?
- You MUST bring your OWN tent, sleeping bag, and all accessories if you chose the tenting option. No tents will be available for campers to borrow or use. The rate for tenting is discounted to $100.
- How will we manage crying toddlers in the middle of the night?
- We exercise patience with one another and we give support to the mother during this stressful time. This is a camp, not a 5-star luxury hotel stay. We are all in the experience together and to help one another. Children will be children and we can not do much about a fussy toddler but help them get through it.
- What should I pack?
- A list of camp items to pack will be emailed to everyone upon reservation. Most important is to remember the camp does not provide any bedding in the cabin and you must pack your own. Please see the full list of other items to pack.
- Where is parking and is there enough space?
Safety and security:
- Is there a hospital nearby?
- OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital is a 20-minute drive from the campground. OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital, 335 Glessner Ave, Mansfield, OH 44903, United States
- What are the safety measures we are taking for COVID at the current situation?
- We recommend everyone to be vaccinated as per CDC age limit and guidelines. COVID safety is everyone’s responsibility so we ask everyone to be cautious and act up on the current situation and CDC advise.
- Is there a provision to handle any Medical Emergency?
- We will have first aid kits on hand to handle small medical issues. We will also have volunteers who work in the medical field that are willing to step in when needed. If the problem is more urgent the nearest hospital is 25 minutes away and all effort will be made to take care of our campers at all times. We ask that you work with us to practice safety precautions at all times. We require all our campers to be active with us to maintain the safety and security of our campers.
- With the access to the lake, will there be a lifeguard?
- No, we will not have a lifeguard . So you are 100% responsible for yourself and your family at ALL TIMES. Liability forms will be signed. Please always practice precautions and be safe at all times.
- What if something breaks, How will this be covered?
- Accidents happen and we have provided liability insurance to the campground. However, we are Muslims and must leave the place better than we have entered it. Campers will also be held liable for reckless activity that harms the campground amenities or our campers.
- With recent attacks on Muslim gatherings, what security measures can we expect to be taken?
- One of the greatest things about this camp is that it is completely private for our usage, there will be no outside interference from other nonmuslim campers. We also do inform the local police department that we are gathering in a nearby campground so they are aware of our presence. Our camp counselors are all on high alert and in constant communication at all times to make sure that your camp experience is the safest possible. Always remain Cautious and safe at all times. We need everyone's help to maintain a safe environment at all times.
- How is this camp experience different from regular camping and why should I sign up?
- A camp with the Muslim community is unlike any other camping experience you may have with nonmuslims. It's a chance for us to grow closer together, break barriers, and have fun while maintaining our Islamic standards. Everyone in the community should sign up for this camp because we will come out of it with memories that will bond us year after year. Our children will know that as Muslims we can gather and have fun while growing in our faith.
- Will my family gain Islamic knowledge by attending this camp while also enjoying fun activities?
- This is the most beautiful part of the camp experience because we incorporate our faith in every aspect of the camp. We pray all our Prayers together and start the day with an Islamic lesson/lecture that refreshes our faith. We also have an evening lesson as well. We work to bring speakers who can connect with our campers. We hold lessons for all ages and you are welcome to attend whichever level fits your preference
- Is there babysitting for younger children so that parents can also enjoy activities?
- We do not have babysitting, we have planned activities at designated times throughout the day for all ages. Parents are welcome to leave their child with the current camp counselors overseeing the activity at the time and they will be watchful over the children at the set time. However, you as the parent are always responsible for your child at all times and must practice the proper precautions to work with us to maintain everyone's safety. The great factor is the campground is for our full usage so everyone remains in one location throughout the camp stay.
Activities:
- Are there any water activities?
- One of the greatest aspects of this campground is we have private access to Pleasant Hill lake. This allows us to have private lake time for both men and women. Also, we have activities such as canoeing and a water slide. We also plan various water activities that can be enjoyed in groups.
- What fun activities are included in my registration?
- All campers will have the ability to zipline, canoe, and a low-ropes course. We also have planned field activities, water games, sports competitions, crafting, and much more. We have activities that are planned for all age groups.
- How will men and women be separated during activities?
- The only time we ACTIVELY separate the men and women is during the overnight accommodation and private lake access times. All other times throughout the day we provide time for Women to play certain sports and followed by the men. We also allow for there to be a time for all to participate in activities together. Please practice what feels most comfortable to you. This is a family camp and our goal is to bring together our community while also upholding our Islamic standards.
- Will Women have access to the lake without men?
- We are fortunate to have private lake access that is secluded and allows us to separate designated times for both Women and men to enjoy access to the lake with full privacy.
- How is bathroom usage managed with big groups and men and women?
- Please exercise patience at all times. There are plenty of bathrooms throughout the camp but we are a large group. Don't wait till rush hour to shower or run to the bathroom. We have separate facilities for both men and women to allow privacy. Shower before you sleep to avoid morning traffic, keep bathrooms for quick usage, and no loitering. Use the cabin to get ready, not the bathroom space.
- Can I use the kitchen to prepare my own food for me or my kids outside what is prepared in the camp?
- Unfortunately, we can not allow kitchen access to our campers to use for personal use. We sign liability forms for the kitchen. We are responsible for everything that happens in the kitchen. If you have certain dietary restrictions please email us at pghmuslimcamp@gmail.com and we will attempt our absolute best to accommodate you. Please pack snacks and nonperishables to fit your needs.
- What is the menu?
- A menu of all meals provided during the camp will be emailed to all campers before the stay. Please see the menu plan to get an idea of what to expect. We try our best to accommodate everyone's dietary needs. If you have certain allergies or dietary preferences please email us so that we can be best prepared for you.
- Will the menu cater to both Arabs and non-Arabs?
- We don't cater to one specific cultural cuisine. We try to make the Menu options accommodating to everyone. Most of our campers in the past have found the food we prepare to be above their expectations. Please see the Menu to understand what will be provided during your stay.
- What if I have allergies to certain foods?
- Please email us at pghmuslimcamp@gmail.com right away so that we can best be prepared to accommodate you.
- I have strict Dietary needs for me and my children. Can I use the kitchen to prepare our own meals?
- We can not provide access to the kitchen for personal use. Please email us at pghmuslimcamp@gmail.com and we will work to accommodate your dietary needs. Please also pack snacks and nonperishable food that fit your needs.
- If I bring food that needs to be refrigerated can I store it in the fridge?
- The usage of the fridge is primarily used to store the camp food needed during our stay and space is VERY limited. If the item you need to store is medical, or for important health usage please email us at pghmuslimcamp@gmail.com and we will work with you. Outside this please pack your food/snacks as nonperishables.
- I have an infant and need access to hot water. Will this be provided?
- We provide hot water to be used for tea and can be used by campers for other needs
