Biography:
Br. Walid was born in Egypt in Shawaal 1380h, grew mostly there, but lived as a child in three other countries as well, where he learned French and Spanish. He moved to study in the US in 1986 and had his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Auburn, AL, 1992. He worked at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, for ten years, one year at the University of Konstanz, Germany and one year at the University of Leicester, UK. He is currently a Research Professor, Medical School, University of Pittsburgh. Br. Walid has been involved in Islamic services and dawa since 1993. He was the lead co-founder of Rochester Islamic Center, MN, 1993. He has been in various leadership roles and assumed the role of Imam for many years since then. He’s is an advocate of unity of Muslims from the different ethnic background based on the commonality of authentic Sunnah of Prophet Mohammad peace be upon him. He believes that most of the new generations of Muslim Americans will lose their ethnic biases and nationalism to their parents' countries, adhere to the authentic Sunnah as should be, and unit as Muslim Americans for the common good of Islam as the fastest growing religion in America. |
